How much do ChatGPT ads cost? Budget, bids and the full test bill
Separate minimum budgets, CPC bids, actual media costs and service fees before planning your first ChatGPT advertising test.

Plan around the amount you can afford to spend without recovering it. A platform minimum tells you whether a budget setting is accepted. It tells you very little about whether the test can answer your business question.
ChatGPT advertising has several different cost figures. Mixing them makes a modest test look cheaper, or more predictable, than it is.
Minimum budget, bid and actual CPC are different
OpenAI’s campaign guide currently lists a $25 minimum daily budget for USD accounts. Other account currencies have their own floors. Check the value shown in your account before you commit to a test.
A maximum CPC bid is the amount you are willing to bid for a click. Average CPC is reported spend divided by reported clicks. OpenAI’s suggested bid guidance is not an independently measured average CPC across advertisers. We would not turn it into a promised price per visitor.
Your test may use click or impression billing depending on the campaign settings. Conversion optimization describes how delivery seeks outcomes; it does not mean you only pay when a customer converts.
Put media and service costs on separate lines
Start a sheet with media allocation, setup or management fees, and any work needed on the landing page or measurement. The last line is easy to miss when comparing providers.
At AI Ads Specialist, setup is $150; setup plus the first 30 days of management is $450. Media spend is separate. That is our service pricing, not an OpenAI fee or a market-wide benchmark.
A daily budget is an average
OpenAI’s daily budget rules allow uneven spending across days. A daily setting is averaged over a seven-day period; an individual day can spend up to twice that setting, within the weekly cap. Use a campaign total limit where available when the total loss ceiling matters.
A $25 setting is therefore not a promise that each day’s bill will be exactly $25. Leave room in your cash planning and keep the agreed test stop date visible.
Choose a budget that can answer one question
Before setting the amount, decide what you need to learn. “Can this offer produce qualified trial starts below our limit?” is easier to evaluate than “Does ChatGPT work?” Estimate clicks using several CPC assumptions, then apply your own landing-page conversion assumptions.
Use the free test budget calculator to see how quickly a small conversion rate changes the number of outcomes you can expect. If the budget only supports a few expected sales, treat the result as early evidence and avoid fine-grained audience conclusions.
For the stop decision, compare the total entered cost with customer contribution. Keep setup, media and revenue definitions consistent when you share the result with someone else.
